Horse Power for Myerscough College!
Myerscough College has forged an exciting, groundbreaking partnership with Mike Kidd Horse Power to deliver the brand new and innovative Dual Equine Qualification (D.E.Q) } at a number of top equestrian centres throughout the North West.
The partnering of a specialist Landbased College with a Commercial Equine Training Provider is a totally new concept for the Equine Industry. DEQ training combines the quality standard of both the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and the commercially recognised British Horse Society (BHS) Stages Exams. It is an extremely innovative programme designed to assess competence, encourage excellence, develop commercial awareness and, ultimately, create highly skilled and employable staff ready to join the industry.
For eligible candidates the training is fully funded through an Apprenticeship and is available for 16-65 year olds. To start the programme, employment within the industry is not essential as the partnership will look to find you employment as you are progressing through the training. The programme has the full support of the BHS and the first apprentices are now beginning the training which is available at Horse Power Centre’s of Excellence throughout Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cumbria and Merseyside.
Horse Power’s Managing Director Mike Kidd said: “We are delighted that we have been able to offer the D.E.Q Training in partnership with Myerscough. The qualification offers people the training, guidance and industry links to secure fantastic employment within the sector.” Peter Caney, Myerscough College’s Assistant Director of Skills, added: “D.E.Q is both innovative and responsive to the needs of the equine industry combining both the strengths of a Myerscough College education with the high level of commercial training offered by Horse Power Centres of Excellence. It is a unique opportunity for learners wishing to pursue a workbased training path and we are delighted to have the full backing of the BHS in this venture.”
Joanna Porter, from Poulton, who just recently started on the programme at her local Wrea Green Equitation Centre, commented: "This programme really appealed to me as it is a quick way of getting a very good qualification and forging a career in the equine industry. The fact that you can begin the training at any age is also a big attraction and personally I can¹t wait to get started!"
